TOWNSHIP OF A THOUSAND PONDS WITH THE HILL

The big street of MRT and cars road is the most important urban axis for Taoyuan city. How do we see the museum from the urban axis? How do we see the left and right landscape passing by?

Creating a hill upon the seemingly flat terrain of Taiwan High Speed Rail Special District - Taoyuan Station, establishes an art museum that merges with green open space of the park providing a scenic leisure cultural riverside facility. On the side of the pond, it’s a chance to familiarize with culture of the irrigation ponds. On the side of the museum, the slope is an extension to the “Swiss Community”. Overall, acting as a Museum that is fit for both the body and mind.

THE CITY GATE

The museum act as a symbolical gate of Taoyuan. The MRT passes through this gate.

It is a gate to know about that we are at the heart of Taoyuan now.

We can see the activity of the museum over the glass façade from the urban axis.

The museum is in harmony with the “Thousand-ponds Township” which has rich green and water.

ATTRACTIONS ON THE HILL

The hill itself is a place of attraction. There are terraces that displays works of art, pavilions, shade of trees, and outside theater. An "inclined lift" is implemented to connecting the various attraction places. As there are performances located at the Art Plaza and rich nature at the Blue Pond Park , bleachers are provided for viewing purposes. Also, the boxes as multipurpose space for commercial and exhibition provide space for Artist to sell their works and to hold feature exhibitions.

The continuity of art village and museum

Located south to the site, there is a neighboring residential community (Swiss community).

The relationship between the residential community and the museum will continue to develop.

Most of these buildings will be used as artist workshops, ateliers, restaurants or cafes.

It is foreseeable that the Swiss community will transform into an artist village in the future.

The relationship between the museum and the artist village will develop further.

From the artist village perspective, a museum that shaped like“The Hill”can be viewed.

It is envisioned that festivals will be held regularly at Art Plaza with seating available at lower slopes and stairs for spectators. The Hill, the Art Plaza, and the Artist Village unite as one, can host many activities, which will be a strong attraction for visitors.

VIEW FROM THE BLUE POND

For the north side, there is a greenery pond, which is a typical landscape that can be found in Taoyuan city. The stage of the auditorium is set facing toward this pond. By placing a movable lifting wall behind the stage facing the pond, the audience will be able to view the pond from their seats.
